The part of you that will not stand down.

It is not irrational, it is not stupid, and it is not going to be argued out of the position. It is doing a job, and it has never once been thanked for it.

Internal Family Systems starts from an observation anybody can check: you are not of one mind, and the parts that seem to be sabotaging you are almost always protecting you from something older. The critic that runs you down before anyone else can. The part that goes cold in exactly the conversation where warmth was needed. Each one took its post for a reason, usually at an age when it was the best available move.

Which is why fighting them fails so reliably. A protector that is opposed simply works harder, and a part that is overridden goes underground and gets its way indirectly. The alternative is not surrender — it is unblending: separating enough from a part that you can hear what it is defending, at which point the negotiation becomes possible for the first time.

This house reads all of it through one additional lens. A part is not only a fragment of a person; it is a holon — a whole in its own right that is also a piece of a larger whole — and treating it as such changes what integration means and how it is done.

A protector that is opposed simply works harder.

And the next thing

If the part that runs hardest is the one scanning for rejection, the first door below is written for exactly that nervous system. If you have met these parts from a non-dual view and found the two frames arguing, the second one settles it.
